January 2012

The 2012 session of the Utah Legislature begins on Jan. 23, and the University of Utah needs you to become a political advocate who will let lawmakers know that funding for higher education is important to you and to a healthy future for the state. The University has three main priorities for the 2012 session. The U needs $50 million in state funding to help repair aging, dilapidated electrical distribution systems and hot-water lines on campus. Another $9.6 million is required to restore 20 slots in the School of Medicine's class size. And the U wants funding for a 1 percent standard-of-living increase in pay for University employees; other state employees are already budgeted for a 1 percent increase in July. Please contact your state legislators and tell them of your support for these issues, and sign up to be a political advocate for the University. Read more...
