Mark Shurtleff JD’85, Utah Attorney General, presents the launch of his new book, Am I Not a Man; The Dred Scott Story (Valor Publishing Group, November 2009), on Tuesday, November 3, at Barnes & Noble Booksellers in Salt Lake City’s Gateway. Musical tributes by the Calvary Baptist Choir of Salt Lake City will be featured, with a special performance by Alex Boye, dedicated to the memory of Dred Scott. The University of Utah will hold its fifth Utah Symposium in Science and Literature from November 5 to 7. It will feature a poet, a composer and a mathematician discussing how their thinking is influenced by the different “languages” they use to express their imaginations. Pioneer Theatre Company: Is He Dead? — Now through November 14
A time to live. A time to fake your own death. Pioneer Theatre Company presents the Utah premiere of Is He Dead? by Mark Twain. Twain wrote the comedy in 1898, but it was never produced in his lifetime. Is He Dead? was discovered in his papers and adapted by playwright David Ives in 2003, and enjoyed a hit run on Broadway in 2007 at the Lyceum Theatre. More...

In honor of the International Year of Astronomy, the Department of Physics & Astronomy is hosting a film festival once a month all year long. Broken Borders: Debating the State of Immigration — November 19
The Utah Forensics Team will hold its fall public event focusing on the ongoing national debate regarding immigration reform.
