The University of Utah’s commencement ceremony will be held the morning of May 2 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The featured speaker is Mario R. Capecchi, the University of Utah’s first Nobel Prize laureate. Degrees will be conferred to 7,331 graduates by University of Utah President Michael K. Young. The procession of diverse students, who come from 73 countries, 50 U.S. states, and 26 of Utah’s 29 counties, will begin at 8:30 a.m., when guests should be seated. More...

Utah Gymnasts Place Second At NCAA Championships

Baskett, Postell Earn Silver Medals At NCAA Championships

Baseball Hammers UNLV, 9-4

, a University of Utah senior, was named to the 2008 Men’s Tennis All-Mountain West Conference Team and received singles and doubles honors, along with fellow senior Zach Ganger.

University of Utah senior basketball standout Leilani Mitchell was drafted by the Phoenix Mercury in the second round of the WNBA draft. She was the No. 25 pick overall.


C.A. “Arnie” Ferrin BS’66 will be enshrined in the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame on November 23, 2008. More...

Art Graduates Exhibit Work at Senior Show May 2-31

The graduating senior students from the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Utah will present their work at the 2008 BFA show, to run May 2-May 31. The exhibition will take place at the Contemporary Design and Art Gallery, 127 South Main St., downtown Salt Lake City. Book Arts Program: Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced Letterpress May 14-July 30

Design several letterpress projects and learn how to print them using movable type and hand-operated presses; learn basic elements of design and typography, and how to integrate other printing processes into letterpress work. Intermediate and advanced students deepen their exploration of letterpress by designing a program of study at a more complex and sophisticated level. Each student leaves with a class portfolio. Women’s Health Fair May 15

Attendees can visit 13 rooms, each devoted to a different health issue, and obtain information on that topic, a list of resources for getting help or treatment in that area, and a screening tool to assist with knowing if one is at risk and should seek further advice. Each room will be staffed by a University Health Care physician, nutritionist, physical therapist, nurse, or other specialist who can answer questions. Free and open to the public. More...

Book Arts Program: Simple Book Repairs for At-home Curators — May 15, 22, 29, June 12, 19

Learn basic, book-repair techniques including dry cleaning; paper mending; sewing; repair of loose joints, torn spines and endcaps; and how to mend detached boards. This five-session course is limited to six motivated participants. Manual dexterity and patience are highly recommended. More...
