At the Babcock: Merry Christmas, George Bailey December 6-8

Merry Christmas, George Bailey, a play adapted from the classic movie It’s A Wonderful Life, will be presented by the Babcock Performing Readers Professional company at the Babcock Theatre, lower level Pioneer Memorial Theatre, on December 6, 7, and 8, at 7:30 p.m. For tickets, go to www.kingtix.com.

Adapted, produced, and directed by Shirlee H. Shields BA’70 MFA’76 (with a doctorate from BYU, 1985), the play is staged as if in a radio studio in the 1940s, with sound effects by KUER. The familiar tale of George Bailey is about the life of the “everyman” from small-town America whose dreams have been quashed by family obligations and civic duty. His guardian angel descends to Planet Earth on Christmas Eve to save George from despair and remind him what an awful place the world would have been had he never been born. This is a story that provokes both laughter and tears, and celebrates the spirit of Christmas.
