Stephanie
Frohman, former Alumni Career Services jobseeker, is featured on
the cover of Utah Business-The Magazine for Decision Makers
(February 2006) as one of Utah’s “rising stars.”
This marks the fourth year the magazine has recognized honorees
that dramatize the state’s thriving business community in
a category called “Forty Under 40”—young professionals
deemed “visionaries, innovators, and leaders.”
Stephanie
has become one of Utah’s most ardent supporters in her highly
visible role of VP of Business Development at Economic Development
Corporation of Utah (EDCU). She found this position after joining
Alumni Career Services in December of 2003. Within a month of signing
on, Stephanie applied for a position of Director of Corporate Locations
at EDCU, a job she spotted in our Alumni Career Services job newsletter.
Stephanie landed an interview and was hired by EDCU early in February
2004.
To
add to her rising star status, in 2005 Stephanie was promoted to
VP of Business Development, where those efforts have created more
than 4,000 new jobs and $150M in capital investment in Utah in Fiscal
Year 2005. Stephanie oversees the organization’s efforts to
attract new companies to the state of Utah and to expand existing
Utah businesses. She was instrumental in assisting Rossignol in
its decision to relocate to Park City from Vermont. She previously
served as Client Services Director for TenFold Corporation, managing
software implementation projects for national clients. She also
worked as a biomedical Process Engineer for Abbott Laboratories,
leading production teams and implementing cost reductions in the
critical care products division.
Stephanie
holds a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the
University of Michigan and has 10 years experience in medical manufacturing
and software implementation. She and her husband, Gregg, moved to
Utah in 1998 from the Midwest to pursue their love of Utah’s
mountains and their favored activities of snowboarding, backpacking,
and river rafting. Stephanie believes that fresh air and adventure
are nature’s antidotes to stress and fluorescent office lighting.
In
2003, Stephanie took a leave from her career and served as an AmeriCorps
VISTA volunteer, a position that focused on the nonprofit community.
She made significant contacts that year who support her in her current
position. She joined the YWCA Young Women’s Leadership Board
in 2004. Currently she is serving the Department of Workforce Services
Central Region Council, Utah Women in Technology Board of Trustees,
and the United Way of Salt Lake grant-making team.
When
asked what inspires her or drives her to attain such high goals,
she says “I am inspired by great role models and the chance
to use the talents I’ve been given to make a positive difference
in the community.”
Stephanie’s
quick wit and great charm and humor have endeared her to many. Several
months ago, when she presented at Alumni Career Services, we chatted
about Utah and its tourist industry. I mentioned that the Temple
Square was still the most frequented site for tourists in Utah.
She quipped: “Cabela’s is trying to change that.”
Stephanie
believes that Eleanor Roosevelt espoused the best business philosophy:
“It’s better to light a candle than to curse the darkness.”
Her first job, like so many, was pretty humble. She worked at a
gas dock marina in Michigan. No wonder the best advice she ever
received was “Pick a shore and row for it!”

of 2006!
