U of U License PlateEach year the Alumni Association helps students reach their academic goals by awarding more than $250,000 in scholarship funds.

From high school seniors to outstanding U of U juniors to students who demonstrate financial and personal need, alumni-sponsored scholarships go a long way toward making the U of U the place to encourage lifelong academic excellence.

By signing up for a U of U license plate, you can contribute to the Association’s Scholarship Fund. With your support, the Association will be able to award even more scholarships in 2010-2011.

If I purchase a U of U license plate, where does my donation go?

Your donation of $30 goes to the Alumni General Scholarship Fund, which provides more than $250,000 in scholarships to students each year. Your donation may be tax-deductible. Please check with your tax advisor.

How much does a U of U license plate cost?

The annual donation of $30 to the scholarship fund, plus a one-time license plate fee of $10, a $5 new registration fee, and a $3 shipping fee, amounts to $48 for the first year. Your donation may be tax-deductible. Please check with your tax advisor.

How do I get new U of U license plates?

1. By direct mail (Requires payment by check)

Make your donation and purchase your plates with one check, payable to the Utah State Tax commission. The state will forward your donation to the U, and mail your plates and state tags to your home. 2. At the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

Complete the required forms, make your donation, and get your new U of U plates on the spot.

How do I renew my U of U plates?

1. Annual vehicle registration fees

Your annual donation is added into the total amount shown on your state vehicle registration materials. Note: Be sure to review your registration form carefully. A line item specifically showing U of U plates must appear on your form. The U will not receive your donation if “collegiate plates” or any other listing appears.

NOTE: If your form is incorrect, please contact Lindsay Allen, director of alumni relations and membership marketing, at the number below before mailing in your materials. She will contact the state agency and have your data corrected to reflect U of U plates.

2. At the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV)

You can make your donation and register your vehicle in one visit to the DMV.

What if I want to personalize my U of U plates?

You can order personalized plates with up to five characters in a combination that has not already been assigned. To see if your slogan is available and for information on additional state-related fees, go to www.dmv.utah.gov, select online services, and proceed to Utah Personalized License Plate Search.
