Los Angeles

May 15 – Join the Los Angeles Chapter for an Exclusive Alumni Event— an Evening at Paramount Studios.

U of U President Michael K. Young and John Nogawski BS’82, CBS Television Distribution CEO and president, will host a screening of Iron Man, starring Robert Downey, Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Terence Howard, and Jeff Bridges.  $10 per person includes light refreshments and free parking.

May 22 – The Ute Summer Tour once again travels to Las Vegas! Join us for the Southern Nevada Alumni Chapter Golf Tournament and Ute Summer Tour. This year’s outing will be held at the Legacy Golf Club in Henderson. U of U coaches Kyle Whittingham, Jim Boylen, Elaine Elliott, and Beth Launiere will be in attendance.

May 25 –  Please join the Bay Area Alumni Chapter as the Oakland A’s take on the world champion Boston Red Sox!  Join alums to cheer on the A’s on Sunday, May 25. Game tickets are $25 each for Bay Area Chapter members and guests, with $5 going to the Bay Area Chapter Scholarship Fund.  The price is $30 for non-members.

July 1 – Mark your calendars for an Evening at Coors Field with the Colorado Rockies! U of U Alum Charlie Monfort BS’82, the Rockies’ owner, will host the gathering of alumni and friends for a pre-game picnic featuring brats, hot dogs, salads, desserts, and drinks. Rockies baseball vs. the San Diego Padres will follow. Tickets to the game and picnic are $18 per person.

Bay Area

July 26 – The Bay Area chapter will gather for their 7th annual Pioneer Day celebration at AT&T Park! Join alums to cheer on the San Francisco Giants vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks on Saturday, July 26. Game tickets are $30 each, with $5 going to the Bay Area Chapter Scholarship Fund.

Bay Area

October 4 – It’s time for the Third Annual Bay Area Chapter Golf Tournament!  This year’s event will be held at Hiddenbrooke Golf Club in Vallejo on Saturday, October 4th; 1 p.m. tee-off with a social and dinner to follow.  $195 per person includes 18 holes golf, cart, range balls, and dinner.  Hole sponsorships for $150 are available, as well as mulligans, tee prizes, and a silent auction.  The proceeds will once again benefit the Bay Area Chapter Scholarship Fund. 

Chapter Chatter

In early March, American Airlines Center President and CEO Brad Mayne BS’78 hosted U alumni, friends, and Texas Lone Star Alumni Chapter members at the American Airlines Center, home of the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and NHL’s Dallas Stars.

The group enjoyed a hors d’oeuvres buffet before Mayne spoke to the crowd about Sports and Entertainment Marketing, or “Sportainment.” Following, guests were treated to a behind-the-scenes tour of the Dallas Mavericks’ legendary (and luxurious) locker room and practice facilities.

The U’s Vice President for Academic Affairs, David Pershing, was on hand to bring alumni up to date with a slideshow on the vast amount of new construction taking place on the U of U campus.

 “The event was an outstanding chance to get to know fellow Utah alumni as well as see the inside of one of America’s premier sports facilities,” said Chapter President Mike Berry BS’99. “All who attended came away impressed. I hope to have more alumni join us for future events and get involved with the chapter.”
