Event Highlight

Jim BoylenSpeaker Series

The University of Utah Alumni Association and its Young Alumni Board kicked off the first of its four 2009-10 Speaker and Networking Series events on Tuesday, August 4, at the Episcopal Church Center of Utah, located in downtown Salt Lake City. More than 100 alumni, fans, and Alumni Association members enjoyed lunch and a pep talk by special guest Jim Boylen, head coach of the conference champion Runnin' Utes.

Coach Boylen gave a rousing speech in which he expressed his passion for University of Utah men’s basketball. In his third year as head coach, Boylen has already demonstrated his remarkable ability to lead a successful basketball team. One of the event’s enthusiastic attendees wrote in a subsequent Twitter post: “Awesome crowd at the alumni lunch today. The passion and enthusiasm was great. I'm ready for the season to start right now. Go Utes!!”

The Young Alumni Speaker and Networking Series is designed to gather together University of Utah alumni and friends to learn about topics of interest in our community from an array of stimulating speakers. The series is free for Alumni Association members.

What is the Young Alumni Board?

    2009 Spring Awards Photo Gallery
  • The Young Alumni Board of Directors is composed of University of Utah alumni who have graduated within the past 15 years. The mission of the YAB is to sponsor and implement programs that contribute to the goals of the Alumni Association. Members organize and participate in events that benefit the community, the University and its students, and encourage involvement among other young alumni and the University community.

  • The YAB works to provide opportunities for students and to recognize the achievements of University alumni. It offers yearly scholarships to students who have contributed to the community and the University through their academic achievements and enthusiastic involvement in scholastic and community activities. Scholarship proceeds are raised through the annual YAB Scholarship 5K & Kids Run, which takes place every year on Homecoming day. Runners in all age categories participate, and the event promises fun for everyone!

  • The YAB also presents the Par Excellence Award each year to an outstanding alumnus/a who has graduated within the last 15 years. The award, presented at the Annual Spring Awards Banquet, recognizes the achievements and accomplishments of an individual who has given outstanding service to the University, the community, and his/her profession.
